James A. Knight, M.D., FACS



James A. Knight, M.D. joined Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates, 1 January 2013.  Dr. Knight is well known in the medical community of San Antonio, having been in active practice here since 1999.

He is a 1986 graduate of the Texas Tech University School of Medicine.  He completed residencies in general surgery at the William Beaumont Medical Center in El Paso, Texas and cardiothoracic surgery at the Letterman Medical Center, University of California, San Francisco, California.

Dr. Knight has served as Assistant Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Letterman Army Medical Center, and was deployed with the 475th MASH from December 1991 to April 1992 in Saudi Arabia and Iraq.  He also served as Chief of Cardiac Surgery and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Texas Tech University Health Science Center from 1992-1994.  He is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, having first been certified in 1992, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Knight joins Dr. J. Marvin Smith III in the clinical and research activities of Cardiothoracic Surgical Associates and the Aortic Aneurysm Clinic of San Antonio.

Dr. Knight is married to Kathryn Knight and has four children.
